Many people do retire in Thailand especially in Samui as the cost of living is low and the quality of healthcare is very high. In order to retire in Thailand you need to meet certain requirements for the retirement visa in Thailand. This and the process is explained below. Speak to us today about your retirement in Thailand!

.

.

.

In order to retire in Thailand you need to be 50 years of age or older. If you are only truning 50 then that is not good enough for the visa. You need to be 50 or older on the day of application. When you apply for the Retirement Visa or the the Thai “O-A” Visa this visa when granted is for 3 months. You do not need much documentation for this visa. Once you have it it is the second stage of the retirement process that requires all the documentation. You need to have a certificate of health to show that you do not have a transmittable illness. Speak to our lawyer in Samui or in Thailand about the exact requirements. You also need to show that you have the money to retire in Thailand.

.

Firstly you need either have an income of at least 60,000 Baht per month or a fixed amount of money in a Thai bank account with at least 800,000 Baht in cash. You can also have a combination of the two. Speak to a lwayer to do the exact calculation for you so that you know. You also need to show a letter from your Embassy that you have the income as it might be from a government pension fund and you also need to show that you do not have a criminal record. If you have a DUI then again speak to a lawyer about this as ‘criminal’ varies from department to department.

.

Retire in Thailand today – call us on our tollfree US or UK numbers or speak to us online now or simply walk into any of our offices in Thailand. See our main website for more details!

.

If you are planning on getting married in Thailand then you need to know that it normally is a 2-3 day process depending on where in Thailand you are located. Everything has to go through Bangkok as a foreigner as you need to take documents to Foreign Affairs and your Embassy in Bangkok.

.

.

.

If you are getting married to a Thai or are already married and now need to register your marriage in Thailand it all starts at your Embassy in Bangkok. If you are going to the Embassy in Bangkok you need to have a copy of your wife death certificate if you are a widow or a copy of your divorce decree if you are divorced. You then need to fill in a form at the Embassy and then collect it the following day. This will state that you are single. Once you have this letter of affirmation the next day you need to take the letter to the Thai Department of Foreign Affairs out in Rangsit to have it verified.

.

Here they will check the letter from the Embassy and place a stamp onto it at the back to state that it is real and not a fake. This normally take 4-5 hours so go early or it will take another day to get this stage done. Once you have this you need to go to the District Office in your area or anywhere and register your wedding. This process take about 1 hour before you get your marriage certificate. You need ot take all the documents with your again and hand it in over the counter.

.

This process normally takes 2-3 days and most people simply hand over the documents to a lawyer in Samui or a lawyer in Pattaya, or ewhereever you are located in Thailand so that they dont need to go all the way to Bangkok to have it done. With offices in all the main cities of Thailand we at Siam Legal are best able to register your marriage in Thailand while you get on with your honeymoon! Speak to us also about obtaining a Thai Marriage Visa when we have completed the process for you so so can stay on in Thailand with your Thai wife.

If you are married to a Thai then you can apply for a marriage visa. This is called the Thai “O” Visa which means ‘Other” and is normally means that you have family in Thailand. This is a 3 month visa which can be extended and changed once in Thailand. Speak to us about your marriage visa today!

.

These are the options if you are married to a Thai and wanting to live in Thailand. Check with a lawyer in Samui or any other cities in Thailand when making an application to obtain and then to extend the visa fo you.

.

When you apply for a Thai Marriage Visa you need to show that you are married to a Thai citizen. This application at the Thai Embassy needs to show your marriage certificate, a copy of your passport, a copy of your Thai wife’s ID Card and a copy of her ‘house papers’ which shows hwere she lives. This is needed when the application is made.

.

Once you have the marriage visa it is normally only issued for a period of 3 months. Before these 3 months expires you need to ensure that you make an application in Thailand for 1 year. This takes about 4 – 5 weeks to obtain and require all the documents you handed in before plus a copy of a map to show where you live in Thailand. You also need to add photos of you and your wife at home in order to show the relationship is real. Speak to a lawyer in Thailand about further requirements and the cost of the application. Speak to us online or walk into any of our offices in Thailand for more information.

There has always been the issue with the waiting periods for a Thai visa when applying for one.
If you are applying for a Thai visa such as a Thai Tourist visa then you would normally wait only overnight for your tourist visa. Currently in Cambodia you need to wait 2 working days for your Thai Visa to be issued. These change all the time so keep abreast about what to expect. Your application for a marriage visa or a tourist visa normally is also an overnight process however some Thai Embassies in Asia make you wait up to 3 working days in order to issue the visa for you.

.

Once you have apply for your visa and you need to have this visa extended in Thailand to a 1 year Thai visa the timeline differs. For a marriage visa the current timeline for changing it into a 1 year marriage visa is 5 weeks. The retirement visa being extended in Thailand to a 1 year visa currently takes 4 weeks to have the visa extended.

.
